STRIKES - 10,000 teachers
have resumed classes, although over half of teachers in the system continue the
strike action, Education Minister Ligia Deca has said. Trade unions say the
authorities are mistaken, arguing some 87% of teachers and auxiliary staff are
currently on strike. In the meantime, representatives of pupils, parents and
trade unions on Tuesday met with Education Ministry officials, in an attempt to
find solutions. Minister Ligia Deca says there are no plans yet for
rescheduling exams or extending the school year. On the other hand, employees
in the public healthcare system have launched a work-in strike today, calling
for higher wages and the application of the salary law for all categories of
workers and the payment of base salaries stipulated in the wage grid. Health
workers also demand the authorities change the way bonuses are provided,

WAR IN UKRAINE - The USA will send
ammo and military vehicle to Ukraine as part of a new assistance package worth
725 million USD, meant to help Kyiv fend off the Russian invasion, the US
Department of Defense has announced. Saudi Arabia will also send to Ukraine
humanitarian aid worth 400 million USD. Crown prince Mohammed bin Salman told
Ukraine s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, that his country is willing to
continue its efforts to mediate a truce between Kyiv and Moscow. On the ground,
Ukrainian investigators have exhumed Ukrainian military buried in one of the
two mass graves discovered in the wake of the Russian withdrawal from Lyman,
eastern Donetsk. Meanwhile, a power plant in Belgorod, Russia caught fire in
what the regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has described as a Ukrainian
attack.

Visit. The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, will pay a formal visit to Romania on Tuesday, at the invitation of President Klaus Iohannis. The two leaders will assess opportunities to stimulate and strengthen sectoral aspects of bilateral cooperation in all areas of common interest, with a focus on political dialogue, home affairs, education, economic and trade. The agenda will also include an exchange of views on developments with a regional impact in the Middle East, the stage and prospects of the Peace Process, the security situation and the effects of Russia's illegal and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, a presidential communiqué reads.
