Councillors call for more low-speed zones in Dorset


CALLS are being made to introduce more low-speed traffic zones across Dorset.
Cllr Sherry Jespersen says the issue is the one which bugs more residents than virtually anything else and has asked for Dorset to lead the way in its approach.
“Most of our residents say it is the most important issue where they live – that it doesn’t feel safe or healthy because of the traffic – and that’s the nub of the thing.
“We need to have a wider discussion about what we are going to do about that in the future…I would like to see Dorset Council be really quite brave and innovative about this and say we will pioneer some new approaches to traffic management and safer communities,” she said. ....

Fears for future of Dorchester markets

WITH a continuing fall in income at Dorchester’s markets a ‘full and frank’ discussion about the future will be held behind closed doors in January.
Income at the main Wednesday stall market was £23,000 down in the last financial year – before the pandemic - and will be even worse in the current financial year.
Operators Ensors has already asked for a reduction in the fees they pay for the weekly event.
The council-run Sunday car boot income is also down because many of the markets have been unable to be held.
Councillors have been told that £4,800 in fees from the occasional farmers market has still not been paid. That business is separate from the other markets and not connected with Ensors. ....
