Shortly before 6 p.m., the company issued a message from Jorge Fernandes, chief technology officer.
“The intermittent wireless service issues that started earlier this morning are unacceptable,” Fernandes said, adding, “I want to sincerely apologize for the significant impact and frustration this has caused.”
The software issue was addressed and Rogers’ engineering and technical teams would continue to “work around the clock” to restore services for our customers,” Fernandes said in the company statement, adding there was no immediate timeline as to when services might be restored. ....

'Software Update' Led To Rogers Outages | Country 105

Chief technology officer Jorge Fernandes says their network operations centre first noticed issues early Monday morning.
Fernandes said they later determined that a recent Ericsson software update “affected a piece of equipment in the central part of our wireless network.”
“That led to intermittent congestion and service impacts for many customers across the country,” Fernandes wrote in a statement.
The intermittent outages also affected Rogers for Business, Fido and chatr.
Rogers tweeted early Tuesday morning that services had been restored to the “vast majority” of customers.
“I want to sincerely apologize for the significant impact and frustration that this has caused,” said Fernandes. ....

Rogers says it will give bill credits to customers who were affected by its nationwide wireless services outage yesterday.
The Toronto-based national carrier says a credit equivalent to yesterdayâs wireless service fee will be applied to customersâ May bills. It notes that this will be done automatically and that customers donât need to take action.
