Barbara county coastline after thousands of gallons of oil spilled into the ocean. Officials found the ruptured pipeline on the north side of the 101 after residents complained of the strong odor. The crude oil spilled into a culvert flowing under the freeway and on to the beach right into the water. Initial estimates say 21,000 gallons of oil spilled into the ocean before the leak was shutdown. That spill is stretching approximately four miles along the shore. But Officials Say it could spread another two to four miles due to the wind. The biggest concern is for the wildlife caught in that oil. We have seen whales swimming dangerously close to the slick. At this point, they dont have any reports of animals injured due to the spill, but it is still early in this effort to clean up the mess.
