I thought the $2,000 check controversy could be allowed to recede into the disconsolate mists of time, as just one more Democrat betrayal, until I heard on The West Wing Thing that Snopes, “the internet’s definitive fact-checking resource,” had rated this claim: In late December 2020 and early January 2021, President-elect Joe Biden and Georgia U.S. Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock misled the public with claims that winning both Georgia races would allow the immediate passage of “$2,000 checks” for COVID-19 relief. “Mostly false.” Since I remembered Warnock running on an actual image of a check with “$ 2000.00” printed on it, in authentic-looking IBM printer-style type, I wondered what sort of gymnastics Snopes had gone through. Before getting to Snopes, however, let’s ask ourselves as ordinary voters what Biden, Ossoff, and Warnock actually said.[1] ....
After Georgia elected two Democratic senators who promised to support $2,000 pandemic relief checks for the public, some voters in the Peach State say they feel betrayed that only $1,400 of additional funds are likely to come their way. Senators-elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock both used the phrase $2,000 relief checks during their campaigns, with Warnock even sharing a mocked-up image of what a $2,000 check would look like. But Joe Biden s relief plan foresees the checks as a mere $1,400 supplement to the $600 payments that have already been signed off by Donald Trump, bringing the total to $2,000 rather than sending out a new $2,000. ....

Then after the election she basically admitted that now she was in favor of passing the relief because we “now would have a new president,” having achieved her aim. Then before the Georgia run-offs, President Donald Trump advocated for $2000 checks in relief. Joe Biden and the Democrats promised voters $2000 check in order to try to get people in Georgia to vote for their extremely flawed candidates, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. They went everywhere in Georgia telling folks that voting for Democrats meant a $2000 check. ....
Oscar Zaro voted for the Democratic Party slate during the recent Senate runoff election. He lives in Hiram, Georgia, just outside of Powder Springs. A Democratic voter in the typically red 14th Congressional District, which is currently represented by QAnon Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Zaro said that Georgians in the 14th were spurred on to vote more Democratic than usual this year due, in part, to the promise of “$2,000 checks” by Warnock and Ossoff. “The last few weeks heading towards the runoff election, especially after Trump endorsed the $2,000 payments, Warnock and Ossoff made it a point to endorse and exclusively say ‘$2,000 checks, ” he said. “A lot of the people in my district voted blue in the runoff for two main reasons: (1) Loeffler and Perdue denying us relief during COVID while profiting millions themselves; and (2) $2,000 checks.” ....
