thanking program committee, especially lionel kimball for allowing this opportunity to put this session together. i want to give a big thanks to the entire executive board, especially executive secretary sylvia cyrus and last but not least, president abigail for her leadership and for this session in particular. the theme for this year s conference recognizes the centennial of the end of the first world war. the war would define the 20th century and still continues to reverberate today. over 20 million people died and millions more after 1918 as the fires lit by the war continued to burn. world war 1 is traditionally tasked as a european affair. frequently minimized, treated as tangential or included altogether on peoples of african descent and african-americans in articular. the great war transformed black america. an argument can be made that the first world war was the seminal event of african-americans in the 20th century, one that set the course of black social, politica

freezing rain and sleet mixing in at times this afternoon and tonight. untreated surfaces are at greatest risk. right now, we are seeing the rain move in to portions of bucks, montgomery county and into burlington county. and you can see philadelphia international is reporting a few snowflakes and there s a small patch of some snow as well. but the greatest threat is from the freezing rain. this is what we ll produce with icy conditions also happening in the lehigh valley right now and farther to the north in the pocano mountains. temperatures right at or below freezing for mount holly trenton, pottstown, northeast philly. allentown now 32 degrees along with philadelphia international. and that 32 is at the airport. that s down 3 degrees in the last hour and a half. so freezing rain is a threat this morning. it s going to be light and unstreets surfaces are at greatest risk of seeing the icing during the day today. nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jillian mele is watching
