Susan Godoy, pianist extraordinaire, teacher, cat lover, generous friend, died on Dec. 22, 2020 at the age of 99. She had made her home in the pink octagonal house on South Street in Hyannis that was built by her maternal great-grandfather, Capt. Rodney Baxter.
Godoy earned the Ph.D. in music from Harvard and taught in Boston schools for her active career. In retirement, she played for most services and other activities – including some of the summer Friday lobster luncheons at the Federated Church of Hyannis. She played most of her vast repertoire from memory.
Godoy first appeared in the pages of the Patriot when, as a young teenager, she played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra on April 11, 1934. She was introduced by conductor Serge Koussevitzky himself. She played in a piece for piano and orchestra: “Tati, Tati, Paraphrases on a Child’s Theme for Piano,” which incorporated compositions by Liszt and Rimsky-Korsakov. ....
