Rockland County uses up supply of COVID-19 vaccines on hand in 3 days

As the state prepares to ramp up COVID-19 vaccinations Monday, there is a shortage of supply in Rockland County, according to the Rockland Health Department.
The department says the county has run out of its supply of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, and state officials say there is nothing they can do to help.
The county exhausted its 1,000 dose supply of the vaccine in just three days. Rockland County Executive Ed Day is asking residents to stay patient and remain calm.
He says that he doesn t have an estimated time as to when the county will receive more vaccines. ....

New York U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has announced her first bill for the new session of Congress, and it aims to speed up the country’s lagging vaccine distribution. Meantime, Rockland County received its first shipment of a COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday morning and began administering it to county healthcare workers Tuesday afternoon.
Senator Gillibrand says she is reintroducing her Health Force, Resilience Force, and Jobs to Fight COVID-19 Act.
“This bill would invest billions of dollars into local public health infrastructure and recruit, train and employ hundreds of thousands of Americans to support vaccine communication, distribution and administration efforts in their own communities, with a particular focus on underserved communities,” Gillibrand says. ....

COVID vaccines head to New York county health departments

Dozens of COVID-19 vaccine clinics run by county officials are opening up across New York state as part of the dire push to expand access to shots following a slow rollout inside hospitals and nursing homes last month.
So far, 46 local health departments have received doses of COVID-19 vaccines and plan to begin inoculating health care workers and other groups on the pandemic front lines in coming days and weeks, according to the governor s office and county officials.
The county health departments are part of 636 sites statewide that have been activated thus far in order to get COVID-19 vaccine shots into arms, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday. The other sites include 244 federally qualified health centers, 213 hospital-related locales and 133 urgent care facilities. ....
