welcome to the programme. one of donald trump s fiercest critics in his own republican party has been forced out of her seat. liz cheney has lost her right to run as the republican candidate for the congressional elections in november, losing the primary to the trump backed candidate, harriet hagerman. but while ms cheney lost her seat, she arguably gained something else. she is now the face of the trump opposition, more so than any democrat. and in her concession speech, ms cheney made it very clear about why she lost. two years ago, i won this primary with 73% of the vote. i could easily have done the same again. the path was clear. but it would have required that i go along with president trump s lie about the 2020 election. it would ve required that i enable his ongoing efforts to unravel our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic. that was a path i could not and would not take. i have said since january 6th that i will do whatever it takes to ensure
the myth making that we heard the former-chief justice referencing in the intro. who who are the special interest groups at play here? is it just the nra? how did we get to a place where well-regulated part of the amendment can be ignored when it comes to a white teenager who encourages racist violence? well, thank you for having me, reverend. you are exactly right and it s important for viewers to remember, chief-justice warren berger was a rock-ribbed conservative. he was appointed by richard nixon and what he was reflecting there was what people thought the second amendment meant throughout almost the entire history of the country. the supreme court did not say that the second amendment protects an individual right to gun ownership until 2008. it was really quite recent. and it was the product of myth making, as you say, we have had
for president in the republican party, now she s being sanctioned. of course, liz cheney, someone who she and her family have literally devoted their entire lives to the conservative movement, to the conservative cause, to the republican party, to the grand old party, but it s not a grand old party, it s not a conservative party. it is a personality cult and this is just you know, this is just the latest example, kasie hunt, of one rock ribbed conservative after another rock ribbed conservative being booed and heckled because they didn t support the overturning of a democratic election. it s pretty stunning and i was sitting here rereading the letter that the vice president wrote to congress. i remember the day it came out, and i m not sure any of us we
senator described this whole thing as a horror movie. it would seem that it went from an r-rated horror movie to something you d only find on the dark web. and let s just focus for a minute more on john boeltdon because he is not a witness that the president is going to be able to easily condemn or discredit. you can t call john bolton a never-trumper because he supported the president s election and he served for more than a year as the president s national security adviser in the government. he is a rock-ribbed conservative. he has a very clear ideology. he s been supportive of republican political candidates including many members of congress and of the senate for many years now and continues to do so through his political action committee. and so it s going to be very difficult for trump and his allies to portray bolton as, you know, some sort of radical lefty or somebody who s out to get the president because he actually
is a rock-ribbed conservative. an eagle scout from the heart of the south who is a u.s. attorney and alabama attorney general, yet 30 years ago, when ronald reagan nominated sessions to be a federal judge, democrats blocked him. sessions rarely talked about it but did so with us in 2009. it was so heartbreaking. reporter: he was accused of racial insensitivity, calling a black lawyer boy , and civil rights groups like the naacp un-american, which he denied. i am not a racist. i am not insensitive to blacks. reporter: sessions was pounded by democrats, including then senator joe biden. they may have taken positions i may have considered adverse to the security interests of the united states. does that make them un-american? no, sir, it does not. does that make the positions un-american? no. that was not fair. that was not accurate.
