After four days of searching for a kayaker who went missing on Carter Lake, searchers on Wednesday said the Loveland man is presumed dead.
At this stage of the operation, unfortunately we believe this is now a recovery mission, said David Moore, spokesperson for the Larimer County Sheriff s Office, which is leading the search.
The 29-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, is believed to have launched his kayak from The Saddle boat launch on the far southern shore of the 1,100-surface-acre lake southwest of Loveland, according to Moore.
A Larimer County Natural Resources ranger found the overturned kayak on the lake just after 2 p.m. Sunday. Searchers confirmed Wednesday that the kayak was found along the western shore more than a mile from the launch site. ....
