This week: I point you toward further resources for improving syllabi. I pass along an interesting Twitter thread on students’ learning-related fears about returning to the classroom. A Welcoming Syllabus A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about new research showing that writing a syllabus in a warm tone could encourage students to ask for help, and asked readers how they have made their syllabi inviting. I received a number of interesting responses. One common theme: The words used on the syllabus definitely matter, but so does the visual presentation. Liz Norell, an associate professor of political science at Chattanooga State Community College, summed up her approach by writing, “I’ve worked really hard to adapt my syllabus into a document that’s readable, user-friendly, and supportive.” ....
