MARKET: Nomada Bakery and Red Caboose host another “Second Saturday Market — July Edition” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 10 at Heritage Station. A concert featuring Cypress Band is offered from noon to 2 p.m. Cabell County Public Library hosts a kids’ paint party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Visitors Center. Vendors are also available on the brick patio in front of the Visitors Center. ....

A Welcoming Syllabus
A couple of weeks ago,
I wrote about new research showing that writing a syllabus in a warm tone could encourage students to ask for help, and asked readers how they have made their syllabi inviting.
I received a number of interesting responses. One common theme: The words used on the syllabus definitely matter, but so does the visual presentation.
Liz Norell, an associate professor of political science at Chattanooga State Community College, summed up her approach by writing, “I’ve worked really hard to adapt my syllabus into a document that’s readable, user-friendly, and supportive.” ....
