and the president will just sign it. get out on the road mr. president and talk more about jobs. talk about beating back a radical agenda that s attacking middle class workers in this country. that is the fight. and you re not going to be creating more jobs, not at a tore id pace between now and november 2012, because the republicans aren t going to let you do it. so i ask the white house tonight, are you really with the workers of america? if you are, take that bus to ohio and get into it, and talk about senate bill five and recall that radical law. and i can t help but think that if president obama had gotten some advice and gone into roberta darling s district he could have countered that $8 million that she got to win last night. all the democrats needed last night was 5,000 votes and they would have had the majority in wisconsin. you mean to tell me the man who brought change, the man who brought heart, passion and soul back to the american elector at
that too is just too close to call. and that one is going down to the wire. i think so. but i think jess king, if i m looking at the different counties that are in and out on that one, i ve got a pretty strong sense that that race is going to break toward jess king. all right. let s go back. let s go back to the 8th district, if we can. john nichols just predicted that that race was going to tighten, and it has. with 63% of the vote now being counted, alberta darling has closed the gap. pasch still leads 51% to 49%. that has now been closed dramatically. pasch leading 51% to 49%. you ve got big voting suburbs there that are very, very republican. i will remind you, ed, that the supreme court race that we had back in april, waukesha county suddenly discovered a lot of votes there, well, part of this district includes walk ukesha county.
very closely way democratic state senator named tim cullen. senator schultz saying of his new democratic friend, tim and i have a great partnership. the pair say they have currently working together on issues including local infrastructure. with senator schultz having voiced some concerns about the behavior of his own party sxeen some regrets about what they did on the crucial union-stripping vote this year, could republican senator dale schultz become a democratic ally in the wisconsin state senate even if republicans nominally hold on tonight? with all eyes on the alberta darling race. joining us for the second time tonight is wisconsin state senator john erpenbach, who you may recall is one of the 14 democrats in the state senate who left the state earlier this year in an attempt to halt passage of the union-stripping bill. senator erpenbach, thank you for joining us again, sir. thank you, rachel. the best democrats could do is to go 3-3 tonight, three wins and three losses. r
bottom line is this is going to be a close, close result here. do you think it will be called tonight? i m not sure. 23,451 for pasch. and you see the number up there for alberta darling. and it is very close. 21,713 for darling. 52% to 48% with 67% of the vote being counted so far. what we have, folks, as i said, i can t underscore this enough, this is national political history unfolding before our eyes. a recall effort unprecedented here in the state of wisconsin and in this country and tonight we are seeing three republicans who have fought back the recall. two democrats who have been successful in their recall efforts. and that graphic we just showed you up right there in the 8th district is the result that we are waiting for tonight. alberta darling, who had over $8 million pumped into her campaign, much of it outside money, outspending sandy pasch.
the balance of power in the state senate is still hanging. we still don t know what s going to happen. and it may be some time before we get results here. how do people feel? people feel really optimistic and upbeat. just the fact that we are that close in alberta darling s seat says an awful lot not only about sandy pasch but the issues, obviously, we feel are very, very strongly on our side. so optimism is still running very high. we know it s going to be very close. we know there s a pile of absentee ballots that are out there. and i really don t hope there s an overvote, or an overcount in waukesha county. that would ceremony taint things. so we re optimistic and we ll wait and see what happens. we ll be up here all night. democratic state senator john erpenbach of wisconsin, thank you once again for your time tonight, sir. enjoy the night. i really appreciate it. thanks, rachel. good to see you again. thank you. there s still a race to be decided in wisconsin state senate
