Polk County Fire Rescue paramedic Joshua Colon, 31, was named Paramedic of the Year in 2020, but on Monday he was arrested for stealing the vaccine and forging screening and consent forms. Colon told detectives he was directed to do so by his supervisor.

A public servant, who was hailed at 2020 s Paramedic of the Year, has been arrested and charged with the theft of COVID vaccines.
Joshua Colon, a 31-year-old Polk County Fire Rescue paramedic, was taken into custody in Florida on Monday after three doses of the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine that were earmarked for first responders went missing, the county’s sheriff’s office said.
“It s a matter of public trust, we take that seriously,” Polk County Fire Rescue Chief Robert Weech said at a news conference on Tuesday. “We had a special duty, and that was to deliver the vaccine to the first responders that are out there helping the public.” ....

Police arrested a man recently honored as a local 2020 Paramedic of the Year after Polk County, Florida, law enforcement officials alleged he set up the circumstance that led to the theft of three Covid-19 vaccine doses meant for firefighters.
Paramedic Joshua Colon, 31, is accused of forging vaccine screening and consent forms for three missing doses, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at a news conference Tuesday. Colon told detectives he was covering up for a supervisor, Judd said.
According to an affidavit excerpt posted by the sheriff s office, Colon received three vials containing 10 vaccine doses each on January 6 and was directed to administer them to firefighters. LAKELAND, Fla. – The 2020 Paramedic of the Year in Polk County, Florida, has been arrested and charged with stealing COVID-19 vaccines meant for first responders.
Joshua Colon, 31, was arrested Monday by the Polk County Sheriff s Office after confessing to intentionally stealing three doses of Moderna vaccine, then forging paperwork in an attempt to cover his actions, according to the Sheriff s Office.
We have a responsibility to uphold the community s trust, said Robert Weech, chief of Polk County Fire Rescue. We found in one of these opportunities we didn t do that. We are deeply disappointed.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Colon said he stole the vaccines this month at the request of his supervisor, Capt. Tony Damiano, who sought the vaccine for his elderly mother. ....
