Dover mulls possible creation of Department of Public Works
Wicked Local
DOVER – In the near future, the town’s Superintendent of Streets may be called the Director of Public Works.
The name swap is part of a plan being considered by the town that would consolidate the Highway Department, along with elements of Parks and Recreation and Cemetery, into one public works department.
In a meeting with consultants Community Paradigm on April 1, principal Bernard Lynch said the recommendations came after meeting with town officials, employees and residents, and making comparisons with other communities.
Although “the system has worked well over the years,” with a nice facility and good personnel, Lynch made the recommendation for the consolidation.
20/02/2021 The Head of Planning for the Duchy of Cornwall is to help take forward the Church of England’s work to tackle the housing crisis, it was announced today.
Nick Pollock has been seconded to a three-strong executive team reporting to the Church of England’s Lead Bishop for Housing, Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, working to help the Church of England meet housing need in local communities.
He will join Canon Chris Beales, a member of the Archbishops’ Commission on Housing, Church and Community, who has been working with the Diocese of Gloucester; and Benjamin Preece Smith, Diocesan Secretary of the Diocese of Gloucester.
Dover may conduct Town Meeting outdoors . again
DOVER – Get ready for another outdoor Town Meeting.
During the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Feb. 11, Town Administrator Chris Dwelley recommended that Town Meeting be moved from Monday, May 3, to Saturday, May 1, and that it be held at the high school’s Nora Searle Field.
Saturday, May 8, has been set aside as a rain date; both dates have been already reserved with Dover-Sherborn Schools, and there will be no conflicts with athletic contests or other events.
On a related note, Dwelley said that articles 11 and 18 will be folded into Article 4, the operating budget.
