The expansion would be on 99 acres off East Jefferson Pike The Rutherford County Commission has accepted proposals from nine solid waste companies A previous Middle Point Landfill proposal on adjacent county property was rejected by commissioners Middle Point Landfill operators seek to continue operations in Rutherford County beyond the landfill s current life expectancy. Middle Point Landfill dates back to the late 1980s and is now owned by Republic Services, a Phoenix-based publicly traded corporation. The landfill has a TDEC permit for a disposal area of 207.3 acres, and Republic Services seeks to add 99.45 acres for a total of 306.75 acres. Republic Services reported in 2019 that Middle Point Landfill off Jefferson and Lebanon pikes accepted trash from the 34 counties in the fast-growing Middle Tennessee region. ....
