Minnis’ medicinal marijuana announcement came one day before Bob Marley’s birthday
Dear Editor,
Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis’ announcement on February 5 that his Free National Movement (FNM) administration will be moving forward legislatively to legalize medicinal marijuana comes before the Bahamas National Commission on Marijuana has handed in its final report on marijuana to the Minnis administration which is tentatively scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.
The medicinal marijuana news dominated the headlines and Facebook throughout the weekend, overshadowing the news of Restaurants Bahamas Limited announcing that it will lay off 35 employees from its KFC branches and the news of House Speaker Halson Moultrie formally severing ties with the FNM.
Members of a church in Chapelton, Clarendon, were furious when they learnt that a wall that they had erected outside the gates was painted in black, green, and gold on the weekend.
This was reportedly done under the orders of the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Central Clarendon, Robert Nesta Morgan. Morgan is a member of the governing Jamaica Labour Party, which has green as its colour. The church is located next to the MP s office.
A day after the facelift , the church members repainted the wall in its original colour, cream. The members say no one sought their permission to change the colour, and they were not comfortable with the colours that were chosen.
