Council endorsed a heritage designation for the whole of Lakeview Park and the Second Marsh under the Ontario Heritage Act at its March 29, 2021 meeting. Regional and City Councillor Brian Nicholson says this is a “signature motion” for the city to give these sites heritage designations, who notes the reaction from the community has been universal in support of the designations. ....

Councillor Jane Hurst, council’s representative on the Oshawa Heritage Advisory Committee, told members of the Development Services Committee Monday that the demonstration of support for heritage, especially with respect to the longstanding reputation and investment in Oshawa by the McLaughlin family, “isn’t going unnoticed.” “This is an investment in recognition and celebration of great things that happened in Oshawa over the past 100 years,” she says. ....
Heritage advocates call on council to save Robert McLaughlin House Posted on February 17, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CITY, NEWS By Courtney Bachar/The Oshawa Express/LJI Reporter A group of local heritage advocates have come together to try to save the Robert McLaughlin House on Simcoe Street North from being torn down. To date, a petition has garnered just under 2,000 signatures ahead of Monday’s council meeting in the hopes of saving the home from demolition. Heritage advocate Cathy Clarke, who started the petition, says the fact the petition has garnered as much support as it has in less than a week shows there is a desire to keep the building and that other options should be entertained. ....
