From the Archives: Mission Bay holiday boat parade launched 50 years ago [The San Diego Union-Tribune]
Fifty years ago the first annual boat Parade of Lights, was held on Mission Bay on Dec. 14, 1970. The peaceful flotilla of boats decorated with lights and ornaments featured Santa as well as a procession of church and youth choirs singing carols.
A distinctly San Diego celebration, the boat parade on Mission Bay preceded the more formal San Diego Harbor boat parade by a couple of years. Due to a rise in Covid-19 case, the parade has been cancelled for 2020.
