The petition had been filed by the NRM flag bearer Robert Kanusu who lost the seat to Peter Okocha Kasoloan, NUP candidate. Kanusu in the petition contended that there was ballot stuffing in 22 polling centres in favour of his opponent Kasolo. However Jinja Jinja Chief Magistrate’s court presided over by Catherine Aguiliro said Kanusu failed to provide enough evidence to defend the petition for a vote recount to take place. Aguiliro explained that Kanusu first of all accepted the results in the tally center as they were being read from the Declaration forms besides failing to specify the names of the contested polling centers. ....

The mayor-elect was, however, arrested with his supporters as they celebrated. They were briefly detained at Mafubira Police Station on Friday at about 4 am only to be released at about 10 am. The 40-year-old resident of Buwekula village, Jinja North Division in Jinja City, is a radio presenter and comedian with Swengere, a Jinja-based comedy group, where he acts as ‘Baba Kasolo’. After his A-level education at Namasagali College, Mr Kasolo started out as a radio presenter at the defunct Kamuli-based Radio Empanga, before joining the defunct Bamboo FM. ....
