“In the age of social media and Donald Trump appealing to people who think they’ve been disregarded or dispossessed, a lot of people who would not have felt comfortable engaging in the process now feel comfortable in not only engaging in it but challenging it,” said longtime political commentator Al Cross.
Only a handful of Kentuckians submitted each petition, and it remains to be seen how seriously lawmakers take them. Republicans hold supermajorities in both chambers of the legislature.
The impeachment flurry began when four petitioners accused Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear of violating the state and U.S. constitutions with his restrictions to try to prevent the spread of COVID-19. FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky’s attorney general is urging state lawmakers to dismiss an impeachment petition against him, fighting back against allegations by three grand jurors from the Breonna Taylor death investigation who joined in seeking his ouster from office.
The petition, signed by a handful of Kentuckians, alleges Attorney General Daniel Cameron breached public trust and failed to comply with his duties in his handling of the Taylor case and then misrepresented the grand jury’s work to the public. An attorney for the three grand jurors signed on their behalf to preserve their anonymity. ....

(LEX 18) â The petition to remove Gov. Andy Beshear from office went before the House Impeachment Committee on Wednesday. However, the committee has still not indicated whether it will dismiss the petition or allow it to move forward.
The petition was filed by four citizens who are unhappy with the governor s actions in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The petition states Beshear violated the rights of millions of Kentuckians by imposing lockdowns orders that denied Kentuckians the right and usage of their businesses, their personal freedoms, the freedom of movement, of conscience, of worship, of the ability to gather and speak and protest. ....
