Some University Heads McGILL William. Peterson, M.A., LL.D., C.M.G., Principal of McGill University, is a native of the Scottish capital, where he was born in 1856. He has had a distinguished academic career. Educated at the Edinburgh High School and the University, of Edinburgh, he graduated in 1875 with high honors in classics. He subsequently studied at the University of Gottingen, and in 1876 won a scholarship at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. For two years he was Assistant Professor of Humanity at Edinburgh. Thereafter he held the position of Principal of University College, Dundee, until in May, 1895, he was chosen to succeed Sir J. W. Dawson at McGill.
