With virtual instruction models already in place, some school districts plan to go online for upcoming snow days.
Some districts have been approved for Flexible Instructional Days (FID) by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The FID program, established in 2019, allows school districts to move to an online format âwhen circumstances prevent the delivery of instruction in its customary manner or location,â according to the Department of Education.
Blue Mountain Superintendent David Helsel, Ed.D., said the district applied to participate in the FID program after establishing a one-to-one technology program and providing more than 200 hot spots throughout the district.
âBefore, we did not have one-to-one, we didnât feel comfortable applying,â Helsel said. âThis summer, we were able to go one-to-one.â
