Friday is International Jazz Day, and it’s also the last day of our spring 2021 pledge drive. Big Band Friday is one of our most popular programs on Jazz90.1, so we are celebrating both occasions with 24 hours of big band music kicking off at 12:01 a.m. Join Derrick Lucas, Joëlle VanBuren, Phil Dodd, Rob Linton, Al and Sally, and Andy Heinze for a big band musical marathon. Jazz90.1 and The Eastman School of Music are excited to announce the return of
Will Moyle’s “Essence of Jazz” radio program. Moyle – who passed away in 1996 was known for his work as a reporter for local radio and television stations, but perhaps was best known within the jazz world for his “Essence of Jazz” program, which aired on many radio stations over the years. Will’s weekly program from the late 50’s was called “Jazz for Moderns” and aired on WROC radio, (He was let go by WROC in 1975.) The theme song for his program was “According to Moyle,” written for him by Kenny Burrell.
