Local Governments And State Recreational Trails Will Receive Funding Assistance


Region XII Council of Governments has provided a COVID-19 funding update. The first is for recreational trails programs through the Iowa Transportation Commission. They have approved a one-time, $5 million allocation to help offset COVID-related reductions in the State Recreational Trails (SRT) program. Funding can be used for property acquisition, construction of new trails, maintenance, resurfacing and restoration of existing trails, development and rehabilitation of trailside and trailhead facilities and trail linkages. Applicants must be a federal or state agency or local government. Details on the application process are included below. Road Use Fund Looking Good After Concern At The Start Of Pandemic

Statewide Iowa It looks like the state, counties, and cities are going to end up in good shape with funding to repair roads after things didn’t look so good at the start of the pandemic.
The DOT’s Stuart Anderson says traffic dropped by more than 40 percent in April which meant a drop in fuel taxes paid into the Road Use Tax Fund.
(As above) “Traffic did slowly rebound after mid-April when we were at the peak drop in traffic,” according to Anderson. “It’s grown until about mid-August when we hit about ten to 15 percent below previous levels. And it has really stayed at that level since that point.”  ....
