It appears an expansion of the Middle River Regional Jail is not going to happen.
Mayor Deanna Reed announced during last night’s City Council meeting that they Middle River Regional Jail Authority would not be adding any more beds even for a mental health pod.
However, there is support for renovations to upgrade the medical unit, mental health offices, kitchen and laundry area. Reed echoed Councilwoman Laura Dent’s concern that the medical facility is grossly inadequate.
The Jail Authority’s next meeting is June 1
st.
