Dan Whelan Far East Consortium and Manchester City Council’s 390-acre masterplan will now be known as Victoria North, a move that aims to “create a sense of place”, according to Gavin Taylor, regional general manager at FEC in Manchester. “The Northern Gateway has served us well as a name as we shaped plans for the area’s regeneration. But as we begin to bring forward development this year, it’s the right time to start creating a sense of place for what will be a significant new district in Manchester, as well as an identity that people can engage with,” he said. ....
Neil Tague The local authority has opened the second stage of consultation for a new walking and cycling route through neighbourhoods north and east of the city centre. The city council said it has designed the new continuous route to serve as an active travel link between Ancoats, New Islington, New Cross, New Town, Red Bank, the Green Quarter and city centre. The proposals, viewable in full online and open to consultation until Wednesday 17 March, will create new crossings to overcome local barriers for people travelling on foot and by bike, such as the River Irk, Ashton Canal and railway viaducts. ....
Dan Whelan The vehicle rental company intneds to build three industrial units totalling 90,000 sq ft on land formerly occupied by AstraZeneca off Brightside Road at North Manchester Business Park. In 2019, Manchester City Council granted Salford Van Hire permission for the first phase of the project, an MOT and maintenance facility on a 13-acre plot bordering the River Irk close to North Manchester General Hospital in Crumpsall. The first phase is due for completion this spring. The second phase comprises three units ranging from 19,400 sq ft and 40,000 sq ft on a 5.8-acre adjoining plot to the west of the first phase. ....
