COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Columbus River Dragons are getting ready for their next season and the return of fans to their games.
The River Dragons are announcing a phased-in return to having fans back surrounding them as they take the ice.
The home opener for their shortened 2021 season takes place Thursday, Mar. 4 against the Port Huron Prowlers. That game will not have any fans in attendance.
The game the next night, Mar. 5, will be a frontline workers appreciation game with 500 frontline workers in attendance at the Columbus Civic Center. ....

ALTON Alderman unanimously gave preliminary approval to allowing beer and win sales at The River Dragons baseball games.
Acting as a committee of the whole, aldermen heard a request to allow such sales from E&G Baseball in connection with baseball activities planned this year involving The River Dragons at Gordon Moore Park. The collegiate baseball team is owned by Steve Marso and will play in the Prospect League.
The proposed Alton ordinance amends a section of the city code to create a new P-2 class of liquor license. The amended section will entitle the license holder to sell or deliver beer and wine at Lloyd Hopkins Field in Gordon Moore Community Park during baseball games or related baseball activities of the River Dragons. ....

ALTON Beer and wine sales at The River Dragon baseball games will be discussed by Alton aldermen at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25.
E&G Baseball, Alton, Inc. has requested to have the ability to sell beer and wine in connection with baseball activities involving The River Dragons at Gordon Moore Park.
The Alton River Dragons are a collegiate baseball team owned by Steve Marsothat that will play in the Prospect League starting this summer.

ALTON The Alton River Dragons baseball team has launched a kids coloring contest and anyone who participates is a winner.
“It’s a great way for us to connect to kids in our area and not just make them River Dragons fans but make them a fan of the baseball.” Said River Dragons Owner Steve Marso.
Any child completing a coloring sheet and returning it to the River Dragons will receive a ticket voucher good for a kid’s admission into any 2021 River Dragons Sunday home game.
The River Dragons have already landed the help of some area schools to destitute coloring sheets to students and plan on contacting more in the coming days. The coloring sheet can also be downloaded from the River Dragons website at www.altonbaseball.com. ....
