The new episode, part of a weekly series produced by the Catalytic Fund, can be seen here. Sarina and Harrison Bigney found this historic property four years ago, already updated by a previous owner. Sarina Bigney uses one of the rooms to hold flowers and a mural painted by her husband. The flower room is right off the dining room and Sarina admits that the dining table is often covered in floral arrangements for clients. ....

When a young homeowner with design and renovation experience got her hands on this one in Ludlow, she gave it a “mid mod” makeover. The Midcentury Modern style (often called “mid mod”) has become very popular, helped along by TV shows like Mad Men. Homeowner Stacey Childs took the clean lines, uncluttered look and blend of organic with geometric from that style and used them to reimagine her urban bungalow. “When I bought the house, it looked like a box of crayons exploded in here,” Childs said, referring to the many paint colors used in the house. In addition to neutralizing the wall and ceiling colors, she opened the dining room to the kitchen and chipped off a lot of old plaster. This created a spacious kitchen with room for a table, long island and open shelving. There was even space for a new powder room with an exposed brick wall. ....

The urban living video series produced by the Catalytic Fund introduces us to developer Duane Cronin of Diversified Capital Management. Located in Newport’s historic East Row neighborhood, the architecture of the building stands out. However, simple changes like recessing the front door, adding a dormer and a new gable window make it look more residential than commercial. Inside, once the washers and dryers were carted off and the dropped ceiling was removed, the beautiful roof truss structure was revealed. Cronin decided to highlight the old beams by vaulting and paneling the ceiling and adding a loft level at the back of the house. ....
