Also, women have the highest risk of dying and they are nine times more likely to die after a cardiac arrest in hospital, according to research published in the European Heart Journal. The study from Sweden included 1946 people who suffered a cardiac arrest out of hospital (OHCA) and 1080 who suffered one in hospital (IHCA) between 1 January and 20 July. The small, single centre study highlights the need for patients with heart failure to take extra precautions to avoid catching COVID-19. Our results support prioritizing heart failure patients for COVID-19 vaccination once it is available, said study lead investigator Dr. Amardeep Dastidar, a consultant interventional cardiologist at North Bristol NHS Trust and Bristol Heart Institute, UK.
