From wooden planes and piggy banks to a game of Go Fish, volunteers with the Sacramento Area Woodworkers organization are trying to make Christmas a little extra special for kids in need.
On Thursday, the Salvation Army handed out hundreds of Thanksgiving meals to those in need at its Center of Hope shelter on North B Street in Sacramento.
Volunteers stacked more than 18,000 cans of food into a holiday tree formation Monday as part of a canned food drive organized by the Sacramento Association of Realtors and the Sacramento metro area Salvation Army organization.
