A Memorial Day ceremony was held at the Rieger Armory on South Elson Street in Kirksville, Monday, May 29. Over 50 people attended and took part in the solemn ceremony that honored the nation’s soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice. The event was coordinated by local chapters of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Colleen Norman, chair of the Missouri Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom committee, spoke to members of the Adair County Democratic Club and members of the public at the Rieger Armory on May 18. Norman spoke about Missouri legislation regarding book banning, library funding, and freedom of intellectual information. Throughout its history, the Missouri Library Association has strived to support Missouri libraries as they pursue their missions and work to accomplish the goals for intellectual freedom established by the American Library Association. The Missouri Library Association is dedicated to supporting the development of libraries and library employees in the state of Missouri.
The Kirksville Diversity Festival was held Saturday, April 29, at the Rieger Armory and Community Center. The event was sponsored by the city of Kirksville, A.T. Still University and Truman State University. The unique and free event celebrated the breadth and depth of the community’s diversity through food, performances and activities for all ages.
