Affordable housing NJ: Ridgewood builds adult special needs apartments

A new affordable-housing site in downtown Ridgewood will open its doors to 16 adults with developmental disabilities by the end of the summer.
The 13,000-square-foot home has six independent living apartments and two group homes with communal kitchens, living rooms and laundry machines. It was all designed specifically for adults with special needs by Virgona & Virgona Architects, and has accessible features built in.
The planning began in 2018 for what was to be one in a series of affordable housing projects launched by the Bergen County United Way and Madeline Housing Corp. The two nonprofits have so far partnered on 34 affordable homes. ....

BCPO: Quick Release: Investigation Of Fatal Fire In Ridgewood, NJ

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information:
The Ridgewood Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor s Office are investigating the cause of a fatal fire in Ridgewood early Monday, April 26, 2021. At approximately 12:55 a.m. on April 26, 2021, the Ridgewood Police Department received a report of a house fire at 255 North Pleasant Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ. Members of the Ridgewood Fire Department located a fire in the area of the kitchen. During fire suppression operations, firefighters located the homeowner, 66-year-old Sharon Maes, unresponsive in the living room of the residence. Ms. Maes succumbed to her injuries from the fire and was pronounced deceased at the scene. ....
