When their service is unexpectedly cut short, finding a foothold in the civilian world can be tough. In the last 13 years, Dr. Ridge Hammons has taken more than 5,000 students on better than 250 visits to more than 125 local employers. Now, Hammons wants to provide his âHELPâ to transitioning veterans. âWe re just able to help people people make those transitions,â said Martin Nelson. ....

The kids who participated are considered at risk in the Juvenile Justice System. This opportunity allowed the kids to look at possible jobs they could have in the future. Dr. Ridge Hammons, the director of the program, said it s all about providing a future to the kids. Sometimes students think that because they made a mistake a long the way, like we all do, that their lives are kind of shut down. We don t believe that, we believe that they all have something to give, and something to get out of being part of the great civilization down here in South Texas. ....
