JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Several Jonesboro organizations teamed up to give out thousands of free meals Wednesday in Ashley, Craighead, Jefferson, and Lawrence counties.
After securing a $450,000 Federal CARES Act grant, Urban League of the State of Arkansas, Inc. partnered with Reform, Inc. to distribute 9,000 meals.
A total of five meals were provided to each person with no information required.
In Jonesboro, 1,000 meals were given and for those with transportation issues, meals were delivered to them.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Earlier this week, Congress passed a COVID-19 relief bill that includes an additional $25 billion for rental assistance, along with an extension of the eviction moratorium until Jan. 31.
Agencies such as the Crowley’s Ridge Development Council in Jonesboro anticipate receiving some of the additional funding as the demand for rental assistance continues to be high.
According to Tony Thomas, Executive Director for CRDC, this means that those who are already receiving assistance will not be eligible to reapply for assistance.

CCSO: Disabled man robbed
JONESBORO â A Poinsett County man was arrested over the weekend after deputies say he robbed a disabled victim.
The victim heard a noise outside his Lake City home and went to investigate. He found
Christopher Chaffin, 32, of Trumann, in his garage, according to the probable cause affidavit.
When he confronted Chaffin, the suspect knocked him out of his wheelchair and stole his wallet and keys. The victimâs garage door and vehicle were reportedly damaged.
Chiffon was spotted in Bay and the victimâs property was found on him. He was subsequently arrested and turned over the Craighead County Sheriffâs Office.
JONESBORO â Around 5 a.m. Wednesday, Earl Long could be seen pushing his old shopping cart up Main Street. The cart is covered in cardboard signs stating, âNEED DONATIONS, ANYTHING WILL HELP, NOT HOMELESS.â
Long, 54, of Jonesboro, just found a place on Gee Street after spending many weeks on the street with his 32-year-old autistic wife, Stephanie.
âI am from Wisconsin,â Long said. âI got stuck here when I got pulled over after putting flowers on my dadâs grave. I was here 30 minutes when I got pulled over and spent two days in jail. They impounded my car.â
Long said his wife spent several days walking the street before being taken in by a stranger. When he was finally released from jail, he said he was able to locate his wife by calling her phone.
