West End Winter Ale Trail Wind down the holiday season by wandering downtown Spokane’s west end and making stops at the half-dozen local breweries participating in the West End Winter Ale Trail. The premise is simple: Buy a beer and then scan the event QR code at each brewery. If you visit all six taprooms, you’ll get a sticker pack with something from each brewery, and be entered into a grand prize drawing for $300 in gift certificates. All located within a few blocks of one another, the featured ale trail breweries are Humble Abode, Whistle Punk, Golden Handle (unfortunately, it’s permanently closing on Dec. 31, so head there while you can), Brick West, Grain Shed and Iron Goat. You don’t have to hit all on the same day, but make sure to check each off your list before the event officially wraps on Sunday, Jan. 7. ....

Brick West Trivia Fest Calling all trivia fiends! Brick West Brewing is gearing up to host a new monthlong series, and by the end of September, only one team of (not so useless) fact-filled brainiacs will stand. Qualifier rounds for the Brick West Trivia Fest begin on Monday, Sept. 4, at PRESS Public House, and continue the following nights, Sept. 5 at Backyard Public House and Sept. 6 at Brick West. For three weeks, local teams of up to eight people can test their random knowledge recall skills to try to make it to the final round. The championship round is set for Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Brick West, during which the top nine performing teams (winning teams from each location’s qualifiers) — plus three wildcards — go head to head. The event doubles as a school supply drive for the Salvation Army Spokane’s Burst-A-Bust fundraiser. Head to the link below for all the relevant details, rules and a donation wish list. ....
Kismet: Writers & Printers Collab Printmaking as an art form is really having its day in the sun — more printmakers keep popping up, and there’s no better home for them than Spokane, a burgeoning mecca of print. In anticipation of the Rocky Mountain Printmaking Alliance Symposium coming to town this fall, Spokane Print & Publishing Center is hosting a fundraiser featuring five printmakers paired with a local literary luminary. Pairings include Carl Richardson and Emma Noyes, Mel Antuna Hewitt and Sharma Shields, and Margot Casstevens and Mark Anderson. Each pair has collaborated to create a limited-edition print portfolio for supporters. The finished portfolio is available at the showcase, as well as online for those who can’t make it to Brick West. There are only 20 portfolios from each available, so get ’em while they’re fresh off the presses! ....
