COLUMBIA, S.C. Fort Jackson s commanding general is apologizing to the community after a trainee with the Army base allegedly hijacked a school bus full of children.
Brig. Gen. Milford Beagle spoke to reporters Thursday afternoon hours after the incident. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott had said earlier the soldier trainee went aboard a bus full of children carrying his base-issued rifle.
After briefly ordering the bus driver to take him a short distance, the man let the children and the driver off the bus along Percival Road. He ditched the bus a short distance away then ran away and left the firearm inside. Deputies were then able to take him into custody a short time away. ....

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Officials with Fort Jackson are held a press conference regarding a soldier who was arrested after allegedly hijacking a school bus Thursday morning.
According to investigators, the soldier, who is a 23-year-old trainee, was armed with a rifle and escaped Fort Jackson. Officials with Fort Jackson say there was no ammunition in the rifle.
Sheriff Leon Lott says the suspect, who was dressed in physical training clothes, went to I-77 and tried to get into vehicles, before hijacking a school bus with 18 kids and the bus driver inside, at a bus stop on Old Percival Road. ....

RCSD: Ft. Jackson soldier in custody after running off the fort and hijacking a school bus

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Richland County deputies say an armed Fort Jackson soldier hijacked a school bus Thursday morning. Investigators say around 7 a.m. the soldier, whose name has not yet been released, ran off of Fort Jackson and ultimately to a bus stop on Old Percival Road armed with a rifle, where he got on the school bus bound for Forest Lake Elementary.
Deputies say 18 students and a driver were ultimately let off the bus unharmed. According to investigators, the suspect ultimately abandoned the bus and was arrested a short time later. Sheriff Lott says the suspect will face multiple counts of kidnapping as well as additional charges. School officials say the students who were on the bus will be provided with counseling. ....

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The Richland County Sherriffâs Department is asking for community assistance to help locate a man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a tire store.
The incident occurred on January 9 around 4:45 p.m.
Officials say the man entered Cruz Tires on the 7300 block of Parkland Road and brandished a handgun. The man hen told employees that he was not paying for a tire.
The man left the store with the stolen merchandise. Officials say he fled the scene in a red four-door vehicle. ....
