welcome to our viewers on public television in america and elsewhere around the globe. it is called a super storm, and sandy lived up to her building. tonight, new jersey homeowners are still reeling from the massive damage. and millions on the east coast do not have electricity, and normally booming cities are at a standstill. 33 people have reportedly been killed. the destructive power of the super storm unleashed after dark as sandy made landfall. the flooding was instant, the scale shocking. the storm arrived with high tide in new york harbor, creating a surge of nearly 14 feet. subway tunnels flooded. the water engulfed the construction site at ground zero. manhattan was plunged into darkness. electricity generators and exploded in spectacular fashion. what is going on? i don t know what is going on. oh, my god. many cars were damaged by falling trees and high winds. 0, my god. my car. patients were evacuated from the hospital that lost power when its generat
and i think that the kinds of energy that i use to comes from a very deep seeded desire to make sure that this country does the right thing. i mentioned that in 42 our government had gone awry, had made mistakes. and i don t want to see that happen again to any group. and it has been one of my desires to make sure that youngsters get the voice that they need, and as a teacher i want to be able to do that, to teach youngsters to speak up, to be critical consumers of goods by thinking straight and thinking critically, be able to get a powerful education so they can choose their options in the future. i don t say to youngsters, get education for a job. get an education so you have greater options in your career and your life. so the energy that really i dip into is from the people that i look at and the people that i want to help and also not everyone to see the community set aside and have a constitutional guarantee set aside solely because they look different or they look li
there are more than 1 million cars in the world today. by 2015, they could be up to 4 billion. what we do with them all? where will they go? and as people get richer in brazil, russia, china, they want the trappings of success and for many, that includes a car. what can we do about it? and can the car itself become a tool for cutting congestion and pollution? how about a car that could fold ?p and use less space how about the fastest electric car you ve ever seen? this is mumbai, the bustling commercial capital of india. it is fast growing and a symbol of the country s economic success. but it has a problem, or rather, about 1.8 million problems. that is how many cars and vehicles are on the road here. there is not enough to go around. that is one of the most congested cities in the world. they tried other solutions, including public transport. but it is behind schedule, over budget, and not nearly finished. and the monorail, also behind schedule and over budget and not
