Wellsville, neighboring towns forgo Memorial Day parades

Villages and towns in Allegany County have taken a cautious approach to traditional Memorial Day events for a second straight year as COVID-19 restrictions ease in New York state.
The Village of Wellsville is not holding its traditional parade but ceremonies led by American Legion Post 702 will continue at Veterans Memorial Park at 10 a.m.
Mayor Randy Shayler said the decision was made in consultation with the Legion.
“The logic behind that goes back to the Health Department and the governor’s requirements. The decision was made that it doesn’t work this year,” said Shayler. ....
