A rare opportunity to drive miniature trains all day for a living is up for grabs at Newby Hall, near Ripon.
one of North Yorkshire’s most popular tourist attractions.
The successful applicant will drive three types of narrow-gauge railway engine – steam, battery and gas-powered – and be in charge of train, the 1.2km track and station maintenance.
A spokesman said: “The job will be just the ticket for someone who loves being around people as around 50,000 passengers each year travel on Newby’s miniature railway.” ....

Newby Hall features on the Antiques Roadshow

NEWBY Hall near Ripon provides the location for the popular Antiques Roadshow airing at 7pm on BBC1 this Sunday.
Filming at the estate took place in August last year and presenter Fiona Bruce and the team had to endure all weathers, with warm sunshine one day and rain and gales the next.
The filming was slightly different because of Covid restrictions, but the team pulled together some amazing footage of the house and award-winning gardens.
Richard Compton, Newby Hall’s owner said it was an honour that the estate was chosen as a location for the ever-popular programme.
Fiona Bruce, who is filming her 13th series of the Antiques Roadshow, said she was delighted to be at Newby Hall. ....

Battle Creek Cold Case Murder Solved After More Than 32 Years

A Battle Creek Police Detective was finally able to give a Michigan family the answers they waited more than 32 years for.
The family of Gayle Barrus finally have the answers they ve waited decades for. After many failed attempts to identify the suspect, who left his DNA behind as evidence, Battle Creek Police Detective Scott Marshall was finally able to tell the family of Gayle Barrus that without a shadow of a doubt the murderer has been identified. Roger Plato, who had long been a suspect, was identified as the person who murdered the single mom.
Plato however, will not be brought to justice. He was shot dead by Battle Creek Police just days before the missing single mother s body was found in 1988. Nor will the man believed to have helped Plato in some capacity, Richard Compton. A man fitting Compton s description was seen with Plato at the time Gayle went missing. Compton however died a miserable death.. he was homeless and died of sepsis and cirrhosis of the liv ....

1988 Battle Creek cold case murder solved thanks to DNA

BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Police Detective Scott Marshall says the October 1988 cold case murder of Gayle Barrus has been solved.
Marshall told the Battle Creek Enquirer that according to DNA results, Roger Plato raped and stabbed the 30-year-old Barrus to death.
The Battle Creek woman was last seen October 9,Â 1988 at the old Speedâs Koffee Shop on West Michigan Avenue. Her body was found by hunters 16 days later along River Road in Emmett Township.
Plato died before Barrusâ body was found. He was a suspect in another rape when police detectives tried to interview him. But Plato resisted police and was shot to death as he tried to flee. ....
