The actors are the stars of this show, with a simple set allowing them to shine. Expect to be moved by the cutest kittens you have ever seen, particularly two-year-old Nila Carruthers who was skilfully guided by the other kittens. Bombalurina (Lauren Loghry) is outstanding and brings a professionalism to the show with both her vocals and choreography. The partnership between Bombalurina (Loghry) and Demeter (Michaela Carruthers) was a highlight of the show, particularly their one-handed cartwheels, and performance of the Jellicle Ball. Review: “Disney Moana JR” produced by Nelson Youth Theatre and Nelson Tasman Pasifika Community Trust
Theatre Royal
April 21 Moana? One word? Awesome! I have just returned home from witnessing what can only be described as a visual feast. For a tad over an hour my eyes were on stalks taking in the many amazing costumes, props and set pieces on display, created by what must have been an army of dedicated volunteers. This is also a collaboration between Nelson Youth Theatre and Nelson Tasman Pasifika Community Trust, a necessary arrangement in my opinion to ensure that the subject matter was approached with both sensitivity and truth.
