Utah pausing Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccinations following federal recommendation


SALT LAKE CITY Utah will temporarily suspend its administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine after federal regulators recommended pausing the vaccine to investigate a small number of blood clot issues.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday that blood clot issues were being investigated in six women who had received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine several days before reporting the clots.
About 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been administered in the U.S. so far, according to the CDC, so less than one in a million people have experienced clotting issues with the vaccine. ....

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Utah is recommending that providers pause administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, following the lead of federal officials who are investigating reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday they were investigating unusual clots that occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination. All six cases were in women between the ages of 18 and 48; there was one death.
No blood clots have been reported in Utah out of nearly 77,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that have been given out, the Utah Department of Health said Tuesday in a news release. ....

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health is asking vaccine providers to temporarily pause the administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine over concerns of potential blood clotting.
The pause is to allow the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) time to investigate reports of a rare, treatable type of blood clots experienced by a small number of who received the vaccine, a statement from UDOH says. ....
