WORCESTER Dr. Eric Dickson, CEO of UMass Memorial Health, warned area business leaders Wednesday that Mass General Brigham’s $2.4 billion proposed expansion could increase health care premiums and the cost of care by 20%. “When costs go up, your costs go up and costs of goods and services go up,” Dickson told business leaders at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce Presidents’ Council meeting on Wednesday.  He told business leaders to expect “a 20% increase in premiums because the cost would go up 20%;” something he predicted would negatively affect the region. “It will take away jobs from this region and therefore have less people to buy your goods and services and then ultimately it will pull resources away from our most under resourced neighborhoods and individuals and marginalized populations in Central Massachusetts,” Dickson continued, noting that UMass Memorial was the region’s safety-net hospital.
