“It’s the biggest project in the history of Brentwood from a financial perspective,” Brentwood Police Chief Jeff Hughes said. “It is going to put us on the map in regard to having a facility that is state of the art that will allow us to serve the citizens of Brentwood more efficiently and hopefully more effectively.” Growing needs From the department’s founding in 1971, the number of officers on staff has grown exponentially, according to the city. The city of Brentwood will have a contested election later this year as four candidates vie for three seats on the Brentwood City Commission. The filing deadline for residents wishing to run for the commission has passed, and as of Feb. 18, three incumbents and one newcomer have filed to run, according to the Williamson County Election Commission. Candidates include Mayor Rhea Little, Commissioners Mark Gorman and Regina Smithson and Brentwood resident Gina Starling Gunn, according to filing documents. The city commission will have three spots up for this year s election, to be held May 4. All three positions are at-large positions, and the top three candidates with the most votes will be elected to commission seats. ....
