For the last 10 years, mental health advocates have gathered in downtown Buffalo raise the collective knowledge surrounding the need to improve the general mental health of the people in Buffalo.
When 22 year-old Jonathan Ramos, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, ended his life it sparked Michelle Scheib to start Mental Health Awareness Day in Buffalo. This year will be the 10th annual event.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Buffalo is kicking off WNY Mental Health Awareness Week, starting May 6. There will be both virtual and in-person events, including Zumba dancing, live discussions, an open mic night, movie watch parties, info sessions, mental wellness activities, and more. Restoration Society Inc. along with BestSelf Behavioral Health, Peer Connection, Renewal Center, Young Leaders and Advocates Network, Mental Health Advocates, and Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries have put together the many activities.
