Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad Monday said that creating a disaster-conscious student community can go a long way in promoting disaster prevention consciousness at the grassroots. He was addressing as chief guest the inaugural session of a three-day workshop on disaster risk reduction, organised by the Department of Geography and Disaster Management (DGDM), for college teachers. Prof Talat said that academic institutions have to take a lead in spreading the message of disaster management in the society. “I think students can be the best communicators of this message. J&K UT, which falls in the Himalayan region, is very vulnerable to disasters and everyone has to understand this fact. At the official level, our planning and our development have to be carried out in a manner where it doesn’t disturb nature in any manner,” he said, urging the DGDM to hold such capacity-building programmes at ....
Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNO): A three-day workshop on research methodology concluded at the University of Kashmir. The workshop was organised by the Department of Psychology to familiarise research scholars in the departments of Education, Psychology, Economics and Social Work with new trends and tools in research methodology. According to a statement issued to the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Shabir A Bhat was chief guest at the inaugural session while Dean of Research Prof Shakil A Romshoo presided over the valedictory session. KU 4th semester, other end-semester exams to be conducted in offline mode SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir on Tuesday decided to hold the fourth semester and other end-semester examinations in offline mode and throw open the varsity for offline teaching of other semesters in a staggered manner in line with the necessary SOPs related to Covid-19. The decisions to this effect were taken at a meeting of a high-level committee chaired by Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Shabir Ahmad Bhat. Consequent upon deliberations during the meeting, which was attended by top varsity academics and officers, Prof Bhat said a notification has been issued by his office detailing out the plan for conduct of various examinations. ....
Srinagar: The University of Kashmir on Monday released the findings of a social audit conducted into the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in select schools of Kashmir division. Dean Research Prof Shakil A Romshoo released the report of the social audit, carried out by the varsity’s Department of Social Work (DoSW) under a study sponsored by J&K’s School Education Department. In his presidential address, Prof Romshoo said the social auditing of welfare schemes like the MDM can lead to course correction and help achieve the objectives of such programmes in an optimal manner. Referring to Japan’s revolutionary school lunch programme, Prof Romshoo said the schemes like MDM, apart from leading to increase in enrollments and decrease in dropout rates, should become a source of great learning for children about the importance of food, food security, nutrition, balanced diet, cultivation and farming etc. ....
