Florida’s congressional maps remain in limbo as Gov. Ron DeSantis and the GOP Legislature continue their standoff over a Black district in North Florida. And nobody quite knows what’s going to happen next. “There’s definitely going to be a train wreck here,” said Michael McDonald, a professor of political science at the University of Florida.
State Rep. Anna Eskamani filed to run in the new District 42 in Orange County following the end of the Legislative session. The newly redrawn district contains much of her old District 47, but adds Eatonville and Maitland and removes College Park in Orlando and some areas along Semoran Avenue.
The race for District 7 may be wide open now that Murphy has announced her retirement after three terms. But Republican and Democratic politics have changed wildly in just the five years since she was elected.
