EDWARDSVILLE Madison County Sheriff John Lakin has announced he will retire at the end of his term in 2022.
“I have been fortunate to work with incredibly dedicated and professional police officers throughout my career,” Lakin said in a press release announcing his retirement. “The men and women of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office are the ‘real deal’ of law enforcement and I am proud and honored to lead them. Leaving them will be the hardest part of retiring.”
One of the reasons for his announcement is that his wife, Amy, will be eligible to retire this summer after 35 years with the Illinois State Police. ....
