New proposals to create a safe sleeping place for homeless people in Boston has raised alarm bells among locals that say it could turn into an open-air drug market.
The shelter is part of a new strategy by city officials to respond to the myriad public health problems at Mass. and Cass, the city’s top public health official said during a virtual meeting on Tuesday.
During a Friday news conference, officials tried to strike a delicate balance between addressing growing concerns over violence and criminality in the area, and remaining empathetic to Boston’s most vulnerable, whose only home is the streets.
