Hungary Guest Nights Fall 69.7% in March
The number of guest nights at commercial accommodations in Hungary fell by an annual 69.7 percent to 224,000 in March due to pandemic restrictions, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Tuesday.
The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers dropped by 66.2 percent to 136,000, while the number spent by foreign visitors fell by 73.9 percent to 88,000.
Revenue of commercial accommodations fell by 70.4 percent to 4.5 billion forints (EUR 12.6m).
Under pandemic protection measures, commercial accommodations have been open only to business travellers and for those on the road for educational purposes since early November.
Gyms, theaters, libraries, zoos, hotels, interior spaces of restaurants, and numerous other services have all reopened in Hungary. Most places, however, are only available to those who have immunity cards. But the strict rules differentiating between vaccinated and non-vaccinated people have ....

The planned immunity certificate system of the European Union could face irrelevance as various member states, among them Hungary, are introducing their own solutions to allowing vaccinated people to travel, either internationally or domestically. While the main concern is that the development of the European database is taking too long, Hungary’s use of bilateral agreements could likely be tied to its licensing of vaccines not authorized by the European Medicines Agency.

Independent MP Claims Orbán Gov't Wants to Create Large 4th Wave to Postpone 2022 Elections


In a Facebook video, independent MP Andrea Varga-Damm claimed that the Orbán government has an “evil plan” to create a fourth coronavirus wave so that next year’s parliamentary election can be postponed. Since its release, the video, which contains some rather wild claims, has been viewed by more than 850,000 people.
Formerly representing right-wing opposition Jobbik, now independent MP Andrea Varga-Damm posted a new video on social media on Sunday, containing some rather hard to follow thoughts, sounding like conspiracy theories, about the government’s handling of the epidemic.
Talking about an “evil plan”,  the politician believes that by reopening Hungary’s services, the Orbán government, with the help of the opposition, is ultimately trying to make people infect each other while they think they are protected, so that next year’s general election can be postponed. ....
