Covid Vaccine Notes For Younger Patients

Health care providers are preparing for an increased demand for Covid vaccine now that 12-to-15-year-olds are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Schools are among those that are stepping up to fill that demand.
Washington and Oregon still have one hurdle before shots can be administered to that group. That’s approval from the Western States scientific group that gives one more layer of review to this week’s FDA decision.
Assuming it signs off, providers that have already been inoculating 16-and-17-year-olds will add the younger kids to their vaccine eligibility list.
Renee Rassilyer-Bomers from Swedish Medical Center in Seattle says her group realizes that the procedure of vaccinating children needs to be a little more thorough than just poking an arm. ....

COVID-19 vaccinations appear to be driving down infections in Washington state
Health leaders are optimistic we may be at a turning point against the coronavirus, and vaccinations are helping drive down infections and hospitalizations.

SEATTLE Doctors in western Washington said Monday that COVID-19 vaccinations may be starting to drive infection rates back down. 
As of May 8, 2021, 56% of Washingtonians age 16 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and nearly 43% were fully vaccinated, according to data from the Washington State Department of Health (DOH). 
After a fourth surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, the rate of hospitalizations is now beginning to go down as well, according to DOH data.  ....

The Food and Drug Administration says 12-to-15-year-olds are now eligible to receive Pfizer’s Covid vaccine.
For parents such as Cassie Sauer [sour], the president of the Washington State Hospital Association, the decision about having their children vaccinated is an easy one.
“My kids hate their vaccines. They hate them. They get mad every time that have a checkup and they need vaccines. They want to get this vaccine. This is the first time they’ve been like, ‘When can I go? When can I go? Because they want to go do stuff, she said. ....

SEATTLE National Nurses Week is underway and it s a special time to thank nurses for their tireless work, especially this past year during the coronavirus pandemic.
KING 5 wanted to share the story of the nurse in charge of the largest civilian led vaccination site in the country.

Another big chunk of Washington state’s population will become eligible Thursday for the COVID-19 vaccines. 
Starting Thursday, anyone 16 years of age and older will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccines. 
With approximately 1.5 million more people becoming eligible in Washington, state health officials said it might be a bit more difficult to book a vaccine appointment.
